Can you see yourself serving African children as a missionary with Every Child Ministries?
Is God leading you to work with African children? An Open Invitation!
If God has laid the needs of African children on your heart, we invite you to consider serving with Every Child Ministries. We are open to considering any African country. We will pray with you as you trust God to provide for the ministry He has laid on your heart, and we will guide and encourage you all along the way. Why start over from scratch? Why serve on your own? The Bible says "A strand of three cords is not easily broken" (Eccl 4:12). Contact ECM today and let's talk.

John & Lorella Rouster.jpg) International Directors John and Lorella are the visionaries behind Every Child Ministries. They have served with Every Child Ministries since its birth in 1985, as founders, then as Board members and volunteers from 1985 to 1989, as African Field Directors in DR Congo (then Zaire) from 1990 to 1996, and as International Directors from 1997 to the present.
At present the Rousters are based in the US, living in Merrillville, IN and traveling frequently to various countries in Africa in their job of overseeing the work of Every Child Ministries. John's major roles are organizing short term teams each summer and working with other missionary recruits, planning and overseeing construction projects in Africa, organizing sea container loads of supplies for the ministries in Africa, helping maintain the International Office at Hebron, IN, and contacting business people on behalf of the ministry. Lorella's major roles are developing the website and web presence, writing promotional materials for the US and training materials for Africa, guiding and encouraging the African staff through email and personal visits, and developing new programs and the budget. Both John and Lorella are frequent speakers at churches, schools, civic groups and events. Lorella speaks often as an advocate for the slave children of West Africa known as trokosi and John on behalf of Haven of Hope Home. Both speak on behalf of the Invisible Children of Uganda.
The Rousters are in need of additional ministry support. Their support level has run at about 80% for years, and they have recently decided that they need to work hard to bring it up to 100% so they can minister unhindered by financial concerns. They also need to raise travel expenses to enable them to more effectively supervise the work in Africa.

Thank you, partners, for helping Every Child Ministries' missionaries serving African children and youth.
Matt & Brecka Arnett Uganda--Gayaza Project
Matt and Brecka helped to develop ECM's orphan program in Gayaza, they started a sports outreach program using soccer, and converted the office garage space into a mini-classroom/library where children from both the sponsorship club and community come to get help with homework, read and be read to, and learn about computers. While serving in Uganda Matt used his coaching skills to form relationships with area youth, teaching them not only life skills but also using that time to teach them about the Love of Jesus Christ. Brecka used her nurturing spirit and teaching skills to help the children advance in their education and has done a wonderful job reaching out to children, making them feel special and loved.
Brecka recently commented on her blog, "The programs first Saturday club began the first weekend that Matt and I arrived back in October, 2008. I was thrown right into the mix and started teaching the six kids that were sponsored. I’m still the main organizer of the teachings, but now there we have over forty kids sponsored. The transformation that has occurred with this program has been amazing to watch and I am thankful that God has allowed me to be part of the process. I personally had little to do with the selection of the needy children; only after they are sponsored do I really hear the story of where they have come from. But I can tell you that once the kids start attending Saturday club regularly there is a major change that occurs."

Micky Beaujean Ghana--Slave children
During Micky's short term in the summer of 2006, her heart was drawn to the women and children who have been held in slavery in idol shrines. Micky successfully raised funds to continue that work, supporting and expanding on the ministry our African staff members Mary and Judith have stared. Unfortunately, after only a few months' ministry in Ghana, Micky developed uncontrollable dizziness which came more and more frequently. Changes in medication did not alleviate the situation, so for her health and safety she had to return to the U.S. All that she had accumulated for ministry was generously distributed to various aspects of the Ghana work. Join us in praying for Micky's health and for clear guidance as to the next step in her life.

Ashley Bentz Northern Uganda
Ashley worked in northern Uganda for 6 months in 2010. She worked with the children in the Tegotatoo Sponsorship Program. She was wonderful with the kids and a blessing for Christine Sliwinski, with whom she worked and lived. Together Ashley, Chrissy and the northern Uganda team accomplished many great things for the program. After the government started closing down the IDP camps they organized a resettlement program and helped families move out of the camp and back onto their land. They helped them rebuild huts to live in and have also instituted a new meal plan. Children in the sponsorship program are now getting at least one nutritional meal five days a week. This is huge because many of these children were only getting one good meal a week before. Also Ashley helped the team implement manditory tutoring for all of the children. Toward the end of her time in Uganda Ashley was very involved with discipleship. She was working with the mothers of many of our sponsorship children, as well as, many people from the village she lived in to make sure they were growing in God's word before she left. Giving them tools to continue to move forward in the faith. We, so appreciate Ashley and the work she did. May God richly bless the seeds that were planted.

Lauren Botts
Ghana--Haven of Hope
Lauren served at Haven of Hope/Academy in 2010. Her organizational skills were a huge asset to our ministry there. She worked diligently to sort through and set up an organizational system for the Haven of Hope office and the Haven Academy office. These jobs are both big undertakings and had needed to be done for quite sometime. Lauren also helped manage a lot of the day-to-day operations and was huge help with communication and leadership during Jim & Carolyn Dricsoll's furlough.

Bambi taught women's classes at Garizim, developed a women's singing group, and translated songs into the local dialect. The Carlsons are now serving with Victorious Christian Living in IL. They also served a term in Uganda with VCL.

Sarah Dingus Northern Uganda
Sarah went to Uganda with the 2009 summer team and stayed behind the team for a 6 month internship. Sarah worked with the team teaching Bible lessons about how God knows who we are and what we have done and gives us an opportunity for forgiveness and wholeness in Him. After the team departed Sarah stayed behind with another team member Melissa Rogers, and together they started an nonformal teaching program. Many of the children in our sponsorship program were struggling in school and needed extra help, Sarah and Melissa began tutoring them. They also worked with children in the Tegot village who were unable to attend school due to finances. The children loved learning and made quick progress. Starting with the basics of abc's and counting Sarah and Melissa set a good foundation for those not in school and reinforce the learning of the sponsored children. Sarah was a wonderful asset to the ECM team in Gulu and we are so thankful for the time she gave serving the Lord with us.

Ashley Ducommun Ghana--Haven Academy
Ashley began her one-year term by participating on the School Ministry teaching team in the Aflao, a town in the Volta Region of Ghana, in June 2007. She continued her service at Haven Academy, where she taught phonics as a reading tutor for all levels, helping those who needed extra attention, and trained the Ghanaian teachers in the fullest possible use of American teaching aids. Of course Ashley was involved with the students in all kinds of ways. Her help at Haven Academy was enormous.
Ashley Ducommun served a one year term with Every Child Ministries at Haven of Hope, a home for children rescued from desperate and dangerous situations.

Ashley working with the children on phonics-- new subject at Haven of Hope. We believe her efforts will improve the children's reading skills immensely. |
Some highlights from Ashley's reports:
I have had such a great time teaching phonics and reading with the kids. A lot of them are really catching on to it and are doing a great job at sounding out words, it's so exciting to see the lightbulb come on!
One thing that has really hit me the last couple of days is that Jesus is an amazing savior and He has saved these kids out of so many horrible things. For example, Isaac-who was 4 years old and smoking is now begging for me to teach him more, learning his memory verses, and becoming a boy after God's heart. I praise Him that He has provided this place for these kids.

Lindsay Hendrix
Ghana 2008-2009. Lindsay taught 3rd grade at Haven Academy. After returning home Lindsay reflected on her thoughts going into her African trip "Taking a few steps back, or more like a year back to one of my first blogs that I wrote in June of 2008, I see that I asked specifically for prayer for humility. In all honesty I don’t quite remember why that was at the top of my list at the time. Most people getting ready to be separated from everything and everyone they know and love for 10 months probably would have asked for courage, boldness, or strength. I guess God knew that wasn’t what I needed most. He knew that in order to be used fully, I had to realize first how useless I really am. And I did learn that lesson, time and time again." We are thankful for Lindsay and her willingness to be used by God to love our precious African Jewels.

Tawnee Martin in Ghana Taught at Haven Academy 2010-2011
Tawnee Martin arrived in Ghana April, 2010 to begin her 1-year term at Haven Academy. She specialized in working with children with Autism in the States and used her experience to work with children who were seriously behind in school. She worked with smaller groups intensively on basics to enable them to be able to move ahead quickly.
The children involved in this program responded positively and picked up on new concepts much faster than when they were in the traditional classroom only. Tawnee was a wondeful addition to our Haven of Hope/Academy team and the children loved her!
While she was there she felt God leading her to teach Bible studies in the nearby village. She tremendously enjoyed this and would love to one day go back and spend more time teaching and discipling in the villages.
Please pray for Tawnee as she waits upon the Lord and makes future decisions.

Elise Messner
Ghana 2008-2009. Elise taught the Nursery class at Haven Academy. In one of her updates she said "God is continually reminding me that He is everywhere. I never really grasped that, I see how different everything here is, but yet God is still same and living in the lives of the kids and seeing him in his beautiful creation in Africa, it has defiantly smashed the little Bonney Lake box I had him in." We really appreciate Elise's love for the children and the time she spent at Haven of Hope.

Dana Neevel
Dana arrived in Ghana to teach at Haven Academy in August of 2009 after she had spent the previous year teaching in Hong Kong. With a background in math she helped teach the teachers at Haven Academy better ways to teach the students math. She was a quick fit with the children living at Haven of Hope. They enjoyed going on runs with her, hearing her read to them, cooking with her and so much more. Dana worked hard to put together a new library for the kids to enjoy. It was a major undertaking as it required lots of cleaning, assembling, sorting and resorting books, but the outcome was and is great and the children have really enjoyed it.
We are so grateful for all the hard work Dana put in at both the home and the school and for the love she showed to our "African Jewels."

Christine Sliwinski Northern Uganda 2009-2010
Christine first served with ECM as a short-term missionary to northern Uganda. Having been moved by the needs she saw and the people she met she decided to return and continue the work that was so desperately needed. She returned to Gulu in September 2009 and took on the role of Gulu District Director. She focused on bringing Christ-focused leadership to the programs that were currently in place and helped to develop several other inciatives while there. She brought a great deal of organization to the sponsorship program, and while she was there the Gulu team was able to open a new library for the children to be tutored and study in and they began a new feeding program that ensured the children were receiving at least one nutritional meal five days a week. These were and are still all huge victories for the Tegotatoo Sponsorship program and God's glory! We are so greatful to Christine for her hard work and dedication to the work in Gulu. Christine is now following another calling from God here in the States. She continues to work with us stateside raising awarness for ECM's work and also plans to lead short-term missions teams for us in the future.

Katie went to Ghana in 2005 with ECM as part of a short-term team teaching Character-building lessons from the Bible. She was able to spend some time getting to the know the children at Haven of Hope, see the teaching at Haven Academy, visit some shrines and meet with women and children who had been released from shrine-slavery. She went to Africa again with ECM in 2009 as the team leader for the Uganda short-term summer team and was able to visit the Gayaza sponsorship program and worked in Gulu in the Tegotatoo IDP camp and with the children in the Tegotatoo sponsorship program.
