Have you ever wondered who Jesus really is?  Jesus is very important to us here at Every Child MInistries.

Who Is Jesus?

If you ask ten people who Jesus is, you might get ten very different answers. Yet ultimately, the real question is not who you think He is, or who some religious group thinks He is. The real questions are: First, Who did Jesus say He was? Second, is there good reason to believe Him?

Who did Jesus say He was? Who did He claim to be?

God's Word the Holy Bible is our Guide at Every Child Ministries. In the Bible we read eyewitness accounts of Jesus life, teachings, miracles, death and resurrection. In the Bible we discover who Jesus claimed to be.

(There's no need for us to tell you. We invite you to read carefully these passages from God's Word the Holy Bible.  Then decide for yourself.)

(Jesus speaking) "For the bread of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world"…I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and He who believes in Me shall never thirst." From the Holy Bible, John chapter 6, verse 33 & 35

Where did Jesus say He came from? _______________________

Jesus compared Himself with what? ________________________

(Jesus speaking) "If you had known Me, you would have known my Father also; and from now on you know Him and have seen Him." Philip said to Him, "Lord, show us the Father, and is sufficient for us. " Jesus said to him, "Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, ‘Show us the Father'? Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works. Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me, or else believe Me for the sake of the works themselves." From the Holy Bible, John chapter 14, verses 7-11

Jesus said that seeing Him was the same as seeing whom? ___________________________

(Jesus speaking) "He who hates Me hates My Father also. If I had not done among them the works which no one else did, they would have no sin; but now they have seen and also hated both Me and My Father." From the Holy Bible, John chapter 15, verses 23-24

If we hate Jesus, it is the same as hating whom? ____________________________________

(Jesus speaking) "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father's hand. I and My Father are one." From the Holy Bible, John chapter 10, verses 27-30

Jesus claimed that He is one with whom? __________________________________________

Jesus said to them, "If God were your Father, you would love Me, for I proceeded forth and came from God; nor have I come of Myself, but He sent Me." From the Holy Bible, John chapter 8, verse 42

Jesus said He came proceeded from and came from whom? ___________________________

(Jesus speaking) "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." From the Holy Bible, John chapter 3, verse 16

Who sent His only Son into the world? _______________ Who, then, is Jesus claiming to be? _____________________________________________________________________________

When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Phillipi, He asked His disciples, saying, ‘Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?'

So they said, ‘Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.'

He said to them, ‘But who do you say that I am?'

Simon Peter answered and said, ‘You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.' Jesus answered and said to him, ‘Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.'

From the Holy Bible, Matthew, chapter 16, verses 13-17

Notice that the question is just what we are trying to decide here: Who did Jesus claim to be. Jesus is Himself drawing attention to that question, so He must have considered it important. What was the answer of which Jesus approved? _____________________________________

_____________________________________________________________________________

How do you know He approved of this answer? ______________________________________

_____________________________________________________________________________

How is this answer different from the other answers that people were giving? ______________

_____________________________________________________________________________

Did Jesus show any approval for the other answers? __________________________________

According to these verses, Jesus approved of two terms to describe who He was. What are they? _____________________ and _______________________________________________
_____________________________________________________________________________.

(The term ‘Christ' means ‘anointed one' or ‘chosen one' and is used in the Bible to describe only the Savior or Messiah whom God promised long ago to send as His final answer to human sin.)

Is it enough just to call Jesus a good man or a great teacher?

"Now behold, one came and said to Him (to Jesus), ‘'Good Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?'

So He said to him, ‘Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God.' " From the Holy Bible, Matthew, chapter 19, verses 16-17

What did this man call Jesus? ___________________________________________________

Jesus uses this occasion to point out the inconsistency of calling Him good, yet denying His deity. What is Jesus' argument?__________________________________________________

_____________________________________________________________________________

Considering the other things we have already considered that Jesus said about Himself, does it seem Jesus is saying He is not God, or that He is calling this man's attention to His claim to be God? ________________________________________________________________________

_____________________________________________________________________________

In considering this final passage, remember that when God appeared to Moses in the burning bush, He identified Himself as "I AM that I AM," the self-existent One.

(Jesus speaking) " 'Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day, and he saw it and was glad.' Then the Jews said to Him, ‘You are not yet fifty years old, and have You seen Abraham?'

Jesus said to them, ‘Most assuredly I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.' Then they took up stones to throw at Him, but Jesus hid Himself and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by." From the Holy Bible, John, chapter 8, verses 56-59.

Whom did Jesus say saw His day and was glad? ____________________________________

(Abraham was an ancient patriarch who lived about 2,000 years earlier.)

What does Jesus claim about the beginning of His life in relation to Abraham's?

____________________________________________________________________________

What title does Jesus use to refer to Himself? ______________________________________

Why did Jesus use a title in referring to Himself that He knew His hearer would associate with deity? _______________________________________________________________________

Why did they try to stone Jesus? ________________________________________________

Putting it all together: Who did Jesus claim to be? How do you understand the Scriptures? Will you accept and believe Jesus' claim about Himself?

Open Bible, Bible-teaching ministries are the center of Every Child Ministries' work.jpgJesus claimed to be God. In fact, it was promised long before Jesus' birth, in Isaiah 7:14, that the Messiah or Savior would be "Immanuel," or "God with us." (See Matthew 1:23, where this title is claimed for Jesus at His birth.) No wonder that when the wise men called Magi came to see the young child Jesus, they "fell down and worshiped Him." From the Holy Bible, Matthew 2:11). It's an appropriate response. Will you worship Him, too?
