Helping African Children Survive the Womb

Unborn child     My mother chose life

Every Child Ministries is dedicated to the belief that all human beings have great worth and dignity because they are created in the image of God.  Something about human beings bears the likeness of their creator in a way that other forms of life He created do not.  This applies to all people regardless of age, gender, mental or physical condition, social or economic status, perceived usefulness to others, religion, race, sinfulness, or any other consideration.  To be human is to have a special dignity.  The basis of this dignity is that we alone of all God's creation were created bearing His likeness.

What is the ultimate basis of human dignity, human rights?

The Bible gives the basis for human rights and dignity  "Then God said, 'Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness...So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him, male and female, He created them"  (The Holy Bible, Genesis 1:26-27, NKJV).

Because of this, we find that of all his creation, God walked and talked with our first parents in a way that He did not commune with any of the rest of His creation.  He also held them responsible for their actions in a way that He did not require of any of the animal creation.

Because of this dignity and value, Jesus Christ proclaimed the value of human beings over that of His plant and animal creations.

The Bible gives the basis for human rights and dignity"Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them.  Are you not of more value than they?

...Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow:  they neigher toil nor spin; and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.  Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you...?

...Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin?  And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father's will...Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows."

(The Holy Bible, Matthew 6:26, 6:28-30, 10:29-31, NKJV)

Because of this, God sent His own eternal Son to become our Savior to provide what we could not provide for ourselves--the perfect sacrifice, the perfect and all-sufficient payment for our sins against God.  He loved us and valued us that much!

The Bible gives the basis for human rights and dignity"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life" (The Holy Bible, John 3:16, NKJV).

 Doesn't Pro-Life just mean "Anti-Abortion"?

Every Child Ministries' Pro-Life position DOES oppose abortion, it's true, yet it is not JUST meant to oppose abortion.   We work for life at every level, because we see the value God places on human life.  All of our programs are based on the value of human life, and specifically, in God's calling to us, the value of the African child.

However, abortion and so-called "reproductive rights" is one dominant expression in our culture and in our time of a philosophy that stands in stark contrast to the teaching of Scripture regarding the value of human life as we understand it.  Every Child Ministries cannot bring the blessings of God to African children if they do not survive their mothers' wombs!

Therefore we do oppose abortion and infanticide (the killing of children at birth or shortly after birth) in all its forms.  At the same time, we support the value, dignity and importance of human life from the moment of conception on until God takes that life to Himself in natural death.  We support both the expectant mother and the unborn child in her womb, and we support them after birth as well as before birth.

Why does ECM oppose abortion?  Doesn't abortion help many women in crisis pregnancy situations?

Unborn child in its mother's womb. Imaagine seeing this if you were expecting a clump of tissueMany African women have suffered horrendously from abortion.  Often the full import of the decision to abort their child is not explained well to the women.  So-called reproductive rights organizations tend to talk of abortion lightly, as if it were just a simple "procedure".  They tend to ignore even the possibility that what they are terminating might be a child, a living human being.  Sometimes this becomes evident in the abortion procedure itself, when the mother sees what had been described to her as "tissue" or "a clump or blob" or the "products of conception."  When she sees what is delivered, with hands and feet and eyes and often soft curly hair on its head, she realizes the awful truth, but it is too late.  Sometimes she does not see the aborted child, but later comes to better understand the development of the child in the womb.  Then she realizes that what she aborted what actually her baby.

At that point, many women find it hard to live with their own decision.  Jesus Christ offers forgiveness, cleansing and healing of those heart wounds, but many mothers find it difficult to accept.  The emotional stress they endure is horrific.

The basic rationale we hear in favor of abortion rights is that the women who are pregnant are the best ones to make these decisions.  It's a private matter what we should not interfere with, we're told.

Yet many of us have made decisions in our lives that we deeply regretted later on.

Why do so many women regret the choice of abortion?

In or work with Every Child Ministries, we've seen African parents, under the duress of extreme poverty, make many decisions that were very hurtful for their children.  We've seen children given into slavery, sold, and sent out to serve as prostitutes.  We've known parents who forced their children to leave their homes and forced them out onto the streets.  Those are all terrible situations that are very harmful for the child and cause grief, pain and guilt for the parents as well.  But as difficult as those situations are, every one of them can be reversible.  We've seen children restored to their families from many of those situations.  The parent made a wrong choice and was very destructive, but it can still be changed.  The parent can often get the child back, so there is hope for restoration and healing.

However, when a mother makes the choice to terminate the life of her child through abortion, there is no turning back.  It cannot be undone, no matter how deeply and desperately she may later regret her decision.  The guilt and pain and sense of loss that mothers so often feel afterwards is just enormous, and it lasts for many years, or even for the rest of her life.

What is the effect of "Reproductive Rights" organizations?

Our work of supporting the mother and the child is made more difficult by organizations that provide abortion "services."  Often we find that they encourage those decisions that so many mothers regret afterwards.  They may not encourage them by telling the women to have an abortion, but they definitely encourage them by overlooking or downplaying the fact that what is in her womb is a living human being, and by ignoring or overlooking or downplaying any long-term consequences for the woman herself.

Why do you oppose public funding for abortions?

These are some of the reasons why we oppose using the hard-earned tax dollars from ordinary American citizens to pay for abortions all over the world.  We believe that like us, our donors work hard for their money.  Yet our American president, Barack Obama, has committed the tax dollars of our family and our donors to destroying the lives of African children!  Nothing could be more contrary to Christian values.

Do  you agree with President Obama's executive order reinstating funding for worldwide abortion?  Do you like having him use your tax dollars to eliminate African children and others all over the world?

Please email him today and let him know what you think.  (Please, we know emotions run high in issues like this, but do your best to write in a courteous and respectful manner.  Your email will have more impact that way.)

Uncertain what President Obama's record on life issues really is?  Take a look for yourself! http://www.LifeNews.com/obamaabortionrecord.html

Please pray with us:

  • Lord, please open the eyes of President Obama and enable both him and his wife Michelle to have a mighty change of heart regarding their pro-abortion position.
  • Lord, give President Obama grace to admit that he was wrong about this issue.  Please let him reverse his executive order that gave funding for abortion all over the world.
  • Lord, please strengthen all those who are working for human rights at every level.  Strengthen ECM as we work for the rights of the African child.
  • Lord, let Roe vs. Wade be defeated in the United States, since it is the fountainhead of abortion rights all over the world.  Let people realize that our Constitution says nothing about "reproductive rights" but the Declaration of Independence does talk about "life" as one of the most fundamental human rights.
  • Lord, protect the children of Africa.  So many weapons of destruction are aimed against them!  You must have a mighty plan for them to fulfill, or the enemy would not hate them so much.  Protect those caught up in wars.  Protect those in the path of modern slavers.  Protect girls from those looking for a fresh recruit of prostitutes.  Protect them from the evil effects of poverty.  Protect young children still growing in their mothers' wombs.  Protect the children of Africa.
  • We ask this is the name of Jesus Christ who loves, who died for all, and who conquered the grave and lives forever to help, strengthen and hear us.  Amen!
