ECM's Ministries to Children in Prostitution

     Every time the youth from our street ministry present their skits at local churches in Kinshasa, people's hearts are touched.  As the youth depict what life on the streets is really like, almost always they are reaching parents who have children or teens on the streets.  Sometimes the children left because of poverty or disagreements in the home.  Sometimes they were kicked out or at least strongly encouraged to leave by parents in the heat of family problems.  Sometimes they were accused of witchcraft because of difficulties the family was experiencing. 

     Whatever the reason they left, as parents listen to the stories of teens living on the street, they cannot help but picture their own children in those conditions.  As they do, they are moved to do all they can to bring their young people back home.  Many of the girls on the streets end up turning to prostitution.  Our last reports from Congo tell of two widowed mothers who saw the ECM street youth give their skits.  Afterward, they went out to the streets to look for their girls, aged 12 and 14.  Both found them in prostitution.  Both pleaded with them to come home, and both succeeded.  We have found that whenever a Congolese parent truly pleads with a troubled teen to come home, he or she nearly always succeeds.  Every Child Ministries then works with these reunited families to give counsel and encouragement and to meet practical needs.
