Working in the Volta Region

James and Denese come to us from Maryland. James was born in Ghana and is excited to return to his birthplace.

As of February 18, 2012, the Forkkios are settling down in the Volta Region of Ghana. They are excited to get started and are enjoying getting to know everyone there.

James and Denese Forkkio are working in the Volta Region in Ghana to alert Christians everywhere that slavery, a pernicious variant which has its roots in African Traditional religion, lives on in the 21st century. This phenomenon is pervasive in Western Africa and it is called: "Trokosi."

** UPDATE April 30, 2012-James and Denese have moved into their apartment in Sogakope and are able to soley focus on their ministry to the Trokosi in that region.**

The following is taken from their blog

"Our task will be to counsel, evangelize and disciple the freed slaves. In addition, we will help them to learn skills that will accord them the ability to live independently. We are also tasked with evangelizing the shrine priests. In most cases, the slaves’ freedom has to be purchased. However, if the shrine priests come to Christ, they will release their slaves willingly. One of these shrine priests has already come to Christ; we are praying that many will follow. There is much fear holding both the priests and the slaves in bondage and darkness. They are afraid that they will be struck dead or cursed if they stop serving their idols. Please pray that as both the shrine priests and the freed slaves see others turn to Christ without retribution from their gods, they will boldly accept the Savior"
