Patricia lives with her mother, and a brother, sister and cousin in absolute poverty. After Patricia's mother became pregnant with her, the father abandoned them. They live in a slum area in Katwe. Her mother is HIV positive and does not have a job or any way to support her and the children, so they survive by begging. They live in a tiny ramshackle house and sleep on old polythene bags and used boxes. Patricia and her mother are Catholic but are not very involved in any church. When our staff visited the family, they noted that Patricia did not look well emotionally or physically. She is miserable and malnourished.
